Since 1977 BAART has been offering the most effective drug treatment solutions to the communities that we serve. Over time and through advances in the medical community, we have been able to provide new methods like methadone treatment, that have proven to be the most successful rehab option for so many patients. We are proud to have seen so many patients overcome their addiction to prescription drugs through methadone treatment in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, as well at our other clinics across the country in Chandler, Durham, Omaha, Fresno and Vermont.
Scientific research since 1970 shows that effective treatment addresses the multiple needs of the patient rather than treating addiction alone. citation needed In addition, medically assisted drug detoxification or alcohol detoxification alone is ineffective as a treatment for addiction. citation needed The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends detoxification followed by both medication (where applicable) and behavioral therapy, followed by relapse prevention. According to NIDA, effective treatment must address medical and mental health services as well as follow-up options, such as community or family based recovery support systems. 2 Whatever the methodology, patient motivation is an important factor in treatment success.
One area of resistance to the use of medications for substance abuse treatment is the ongoing debate regarding abstinence vs. harm reduction. Many in the substance abuse treatment field and the 12-step support community believe that total abstinence from substances (including psychotropic medications) is a necessity for a person to be truly clean and sober. For many, especially those with co-occurring disorders, abstinence is a goal but not an absolute (Smith, 2007). Using medications to reduce cravings, avoid relapse, or decrease the frequency and effects of drug or alcohol use (harm reduction) can offer hope and reduce the emotional and social costs of substance abuse and addiction.

Your loved ones are there to help you get well. You can also find support from a licensed therapist, a support group and a substance abuse rehab center. This assembly of resources will shape your sobriety network. The team will help you beat the drug addiction.
